Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine:

  • This oil-soluble organic compound is added to sunscreens to absorb UV rays. It is a broad-spectrum UV absorber, absorbing UVB and UVA rays. It has two absorption peaks, 310 and 340 nm. It is highly photostable.

Diethylamino hydroxy benzoyl hexyl benzoate:

This organic compound absorbs UVA radiation with a maximum absorption of 354 nm. DHHB has excellent photostability and compatibility with other UV absorbers and cosmetic ingredients.

Ethylhexyl Triazone:

This is a commonly used organic UV filter for UVB and UVA protection. Ethyl hexyl Triazone helps prevent sunburn and photoaging by absorbing and dissipating harmful UV rays. Its photostable and lightweight texture boosts the photostability of other UV filters.

Propanediol:

This has moisturizing properties that can result in a smooth, dewy finish as the formula sets.

Phenoxyethanol:

These antioxidants and humectants help boost preservative systems in many types of formulas. It provides soothing, Anti-Aging, and hydration. Additionally, it has germicidal and gyrostatic properties.

Hydroxy acetophenone:

This is a synthetic antioxidant and skin-conditioning ingredient. The specific antioxidant compound is p-hydroxy acetophenone, a phenolic antioxidant capable of neutralizing several types of free radicals. Its secondary benefit is boosting preservation and reducing the risk of an allergic reaction.

Butyl methoxy dibenzoyl methane:

  1. It is the global gold standard for UVA protection and is the most used UVA sunscreen worldwide.
  2. This formulation stabilizes it by double encapsulation technology. It is effective against the whole UVA range (310-400 nm, which includes both UVA1 and UVA2), with a peak protection at 360 nm.
  1. Precision: The One Drop sunscreen pump jar gives you an exact measurement of sunscreen to be applied to the face and neck to achieve a given SPF.
  2. Exact Amount: You must apply half a teaspoon or 2mg per sq. cm on your face and neck, which is 1/3 of a teaspoon! That amount is difficult to use after applying your regular moisturizer or serum, so over-layering products can make you feel like dripping wax or have a greyish tinge in color.
  3. Easy & Effortless: One Drop sunscreen’s unique soluble properties allow you to mix your choice of moisturizer or serum into the sunscreen quickly and effortlessly, so you reduce over-layering yet achieve exact SPF and UVA protection for which you purchased the sunscreen.
  4. Nongreasy: One Drop sunscreen is easy to mix and spread on the skin without a greasy or white cast feel. This makes your sunscreen application a joyous experience!

Keynote by Dr. Shere, MD Dermatologist & Founder of Dermis skin care.

As a Dermatologist, I have been advising sunscreen for the past twenty years. There were limited choices earlier, but with time, many sunscreens came on the market. A few complaints remained the same: Even after applying sunscreen, people still get tanned or sunburnt, and their skin feels greasy and has a heavy texture with a white cast.

After studying my clients’ sunscreen usage patterns, I realized that they use much less than the recommended quantity, as recommended in research and scientific papers.

Unfortunately, most sunscreens do not mention how much to put in to get SPF 30 or 50, whichever you buy. SPF is a measure of UVB radiation, not UVA. Broad spectrum can mean low to high protection, as the exact PA or PPD gradient is not mentioned. UVA rays cause more tanning and wrinkles besides skin cancer, while UVB is responsible for sunburn and skin cancer.

Ideally, sunscreen should be used at 2mg per sq. cm on the face and neck, half a teaspoon. That is a huge amount to apply, and most of my clients applied less to avoid excess grease, which caused comedones, acne, and cysts. Thus, they were not achieving the full benefits of sunscreen…it is just a waste of money!

One Drop Sunscreen was developed to reduce all those unpleasant experiences while improving the efficacy and feel of sunscreen.

Modern encapsulation technology (water oil water) could prevent greasiness as the oil layer is sandwiched between two water-soluble layers.

Encapsulation technology allows sunscreen to be effective for a longer time. Chemical ingredients are stabilized by encapsulation to form an even thin film on the skin, giving sustained protection for 6 hours (in vitro and in vivo study report). It is non-sensitizing, stays on the skin longer, and is safer; hence, a small amount of combination can be used to achieve ambitious standards of photoprotection.

In my independent clinical studies, I found the following:

  1. 100% of participants felt it was nongreasy, lightweight, and easy to apply.
  2. 98% of participants said it helped their tanning, and they did not get sunburnt after prolonged sun exposure.
  3. 93% of participants found pigmentation reduced.
  4. 100% of participants who tended acne and comedones with their sunscreens found a much-reduced tendency for these.
  • As a Dermatologist, I advise using sunscreen with SPF 30 or more, which minimizes UVB rays by 97-98%, and PA++++, a PPD gradient measure for UVA.
  • Lately, there has been a lot of discussion on visible light and blue light (more research is needed to know the exact effects on the skin and how to prevent them). Mixing antioxidant-containing moisturizers (Vit C and E) or serum should protect against those effects.
  • Be skincare smart!
  • Cheers & Best wishes for Dermi’s experience
